PostSubject: Lesson [Closed]   Lesson [Closed] EmptyTue Jan 22, 2013 10:33 pm

Merri took a seat at the front of the class then realizing it was early took out a book and began to thumb through the pages. Turning a match into a needle, I wonder how hard that could be. The girl took out her wand and began softly mumbling the incantation and practicing the correct wand motion.

Misha entered her first class for Transfiguration. She walked inside and found an Incaendefacio student inside. She sneaked behind her and watched as she tries to practice.

"Looks fun" Misha thought, "Misha wants to try that too" she blurted out.

Alec walked into Transfiguration and sat at the back. Being the only sixth year couldn't draw more attention to himself, could it? He listened attentively to the professor and began writing notes.

Ivy opened the door and walked in as if she was in the right classroom. Which she was clearly not. Oh dear. Her eyes scanned the unfamiliar faces in front of her, and her cheeks flushed a light red. One glance at her watch told her the class she was supposed to be in was almost over anyway, it wouldn't hurt her if she sat in this one. She walked past a few occupied tables and chairs and sat down in front of a boy who looked very much above the average age of the people in this class. Curious, she turned around in her chair, "Hi, what are you doing here?" It was direct, almost coming off the edge of hostile perhaps, but hey, Ivy wasn't known for beating around the bush.

Apparently, Forest had arrived to class early, because all that was happening was just various students entering the room and taking their seats, either talking to each other or doing their own thing. There was no teacher to be seen yet. The girl rolled her eyes in annoyance. Darn, now she was stuck here doing nothing. She was by no means patient, would rather be doing something fun like riding on her broom through the air instead of sitting at a desk and just stare at the empty teacher's desk, cabinets, and blackboard.

She should be more careful with her timing, she scolded herself. Normally people did that to make sure they were punctual, but she did it because she didn't want to be too punctual. Yeah, nothing bad with being on time, but it was never good having to wait a millennium for things to begin. But what was done was done, and she couldn't just get up and leave. Maybe she could read through her Transfiguration textbook? Chat with some students? She drummed her fingers against the desk as she decided what she should do to kill time.

((The teacher hasn't come yet?))

Merri was deep in thought, practicing the spell, when a girl's voice startled her and brought her back to the present. Looking up from her book she smiled at the other girl. "Well then Misha could sit next to me and I can show her?" She moved her bag to make room. "I'm Merri by the way, but my friends call me MP." Pointing to a section in her book, Merri continued "I was practicing this spell. It is suppose to turn a match into a needle."

Forest heard a girl say something about a spell that turned a match into a needle. The direction where the voice spoke was right behind her. Intrigued, she turned her chair around to face the girl who had introduced herself as Merri, or MP, although Forest preferred Merri, since it sounded more normal. Turning a match into a needle sounded quite vague, since it was just transforming one small, seemingly harmless thing into another one. But Forest was new to the academy and had not yet practiced much magic, so every little out-of-the-ordinary thing caught her eye, or in this case, ear.

She gave Merri a smile, something she wished she did more often than roll her eyes in annoyance. "Turning a match into a needle, you say?" she remarked. "Sounds cool. What does the book tell you to do, exactly?" Maybe she would just have to say something fancy and complicated, like "Hocus-Pocus!" and touch a match with her wand, then ta-da! It would turn into a perfect thin little silver needle.

Merri returned the girl's smile with a grin. The room seemed to be filling up fast and now that two students were speaking to her she felt a little more at ease. Maybe things really were turning around for her. Except...what if these two students thought she was a know it all or worse a show off. Maybe she should have just sat there quietly like a normal student.

Digging through her bag she pulled out a box of matches and set a few on the table."Well, the book says the trick is to actually imagine the match as a needle and to concentrate on the properties of a needle. Then you just swish like this," the girl waved her wand in a small circle over the match and concentrated hard on changing the object. Surprisingly the match stiffened into a silver point before quickly changing back. "Er, something like that I suppose. Do you want to try?"

"Misha wants to try too" Misha said looking excited. "My name is Misha, nice to meet you Merri and ... you" Misha said to Merri and Forestyne, who have not yet mentioned her name thus referring to "you". She then sat beside Merri, who offered the chair next to her. Misha took her wand out, she grabbed a piece of match from Merri's set "So Misha just have to swish the wand and concentrate" Misha as instructed waved her wand in a small circular motion just like what Merri showed them and closed her eyes but what Misha had in mind was all sweets. Surprisingly, the match turned into a small piece of candy. "Ehehehe" she laughed. "Can Misha eat this?" Misha asked picking up the small candy.

Ivy stifled a small smile at the sight of the slight displeasure that had flickered across his eyes. Perhaps she should tone it down a bit, after all, not everyone could be as... uh, bouncy as Jasmine. It was true! Jas was like this tough rubber ball, whatever you threw at her, she just bounced it right back. "That's nice of you to agree," Ivy grinned slightly, "And since you're here, help me with mine, please?" She whipped around for a moment to grab her book and her wand before spinning the chair on it's back legs to face the table behind her. Ivy flipped it open to the page that had pictures of a feather turning into a fountain pen.

Forest listened to Merri's instructions carefully, and watched as she swirled her wand above the match in a circular motion. She grinned widely, her eyes shining. This was too cool. She didn't need to say anything; all she needed to do was focus on what she wanted the object to transform into and circle her wand above it.

She looked up at the other girl named Misha, who didn't know her name so just called her "you". Forest wondered why she kept on calling herself by her name instead of "I" like some toddler, but right now she was too transfixed upon trying out the cool new transfiguration spell to critique upon people's personalities. "The name's Forestyne, but call me Forest," she said before watching Misha take out a match from the match box on Merri's desk. The girl did the same thing as Merri, but this time the match turned into a piece of candy, not a needle, which Forest thought was even better.

Forest grabbed a match out of the box and flipped her chair around to face her desk. Placing the match on the surface, she concentrated upon it turning into a rubber ducky, the first thing that came into her mind besides a needle. Then she took out her new wand from her bag and swished the tip in a circle above the match, then watched with amazement as it popped into a small yellow ducky.

She grabbed the rubber ducky and squeezed it hard, letting out a loud squeaky sound. She turned her chair around and all but shoved the newly transformed object into Merril and Misha's faces. She was beaming with pride and delight. "I did it!" she exclaimed. "I actually did it!" Right now she was overly excited and couldn't contain herself, which probably irritated some people, but she didn't care like usual.

Merri watched as Misha attempted the transfiguration and began to laugh as the match turned into a piece of candy. She wasn't quiet sure what to think of that, but the match did change. The girl tilted her head for a moment, thinking carefully, then laughed some more. "I don't believe I would eat the candy but I suppose you could try a small bite. I'm fairly certain it shouldn't harm you."

Turning her attention back down to her own match she began to practice the spell again. But before she had even moved her wand the girl named Forest shoved a small yellow duck into her face. She blinked, once more unsure of why the object wasn't a needle, but shrugged it off when she saw how happy Forest appeared. "Congratulations you two! I think those are much better than my needle!"

Misha heard Forestyne and replied "Forest is easier to say, so Misha will call you Forest from now on" showing a sweet smile.

Misha's face glowed in delightness when she heard Merri. She picked up the small candy and took a bite, but it was really tempting for her so she ate the rest. It was really sweet, Misha loved it.

When Forest showed what she did to the match, Misha released a huge smile at Forest and said "Wow!! Forest is amazing!" and clapped her hands in excitement.

Then Misha noticed Merri wanted to give the it another try. Misha looked at Merri with her hands in a fist-like form in front of her chest and cheered "Merri can do it too. Come on Merri!" Misha kept her eyes looking at Merri.

With Misha now cheering her on, Merri rolled up her sleeves and stared down at the box of matches. Alright time to turn you into a shiny new box of needles. She took a deep breath then waved her wand with a small flourish and watched as each match turned into a bright and shiny sewing needle. Blinking a few times in amazement she grinned and looked back up at Misha. "I did it this time! I can't believe I did it. Thanks for cheering me on!" She giggled and looked back to her book. "I wonder if we might try a more difficult spell!"

However, before she could look for another spell the professor entered the room and began the lecture by having them copy a long list of notes. She frown and took out her notebook. But it's no fun writing about spells. Why can't we practice them. Quietly sighing she began copying the list of names and diagrams that accompanied them. Maybe we will get a chance to practice before class ends. At least that's what she hoped.

Forest had somewhat calmed down. She gave Misha a smile and said, "Thanks." She turned around to put the rubber ducky on her desk before looking back at Merri to watch her attempt. The last time Merri had tried it, the match had only slightly turned into a silver needle point before switching back to its original form. Forest didn't know why it didn't work, since all she had to do was concentrate, but she hoped that it would this time.

To her delight, it did. Her eyes glowed and her grin was wide. "Finally, you did it!" she cheered, then nodded up and down when Merri suggested that they find a more difficult spell. Maybe they could turn the match into a bar of gold!

But then the door of the classroom swung open, and there entered in a stately manner an adult with robes, and Forest knew that it was their professor. She was bitterly disappointed. Darn! Go back outside! she yelled in her mind. Funny, earlier she had been hoping the professor would speed up whatever he was doing outside the classroom so he could get on with the lesson, but now she wanted him gone so she could learn new spells with Merri and Misha. Especially when he announced that they were going to start off class by copying down notes and tiring their hands out.

Sighing, she turned her chair around to face her desk and got out a piece of parchment from her bag and places it on her desk next to the rubber ducky. She had already laid out a quill and ink. Although Forest didn't like what was going on, she was always one to want to get good grades, so she commenced to do what the professor instructed. She jotted down the notes, occasionally looking up to read them then looking back down at the parchment.

Misha saw what Merri did. Her eyes glowed and was really amazed that she started clapping her hands. "Merri did it! Merri did it!" Misha said in delight and looked to Forest too with a smile.

When they have decided to try another spell, the door opened wide. Misha saw the professor entered the room. Misha went back to her seat besides Merri and looked in front.

Upon seeing the long notes they had to copy, Misha frowned and said "Misha will get tired with all this writing". Misha took out her things and started copying with a tear about to fall from her eyes. "Misha hates copying long notes" she thought.

Copy the last line of notes Merri rubbed her sore hand and looked up hopefully at the professor. He gave the class a smile and decided they wouldn't practice spells yet, instead they would be tortured further with a boring lecture about proper wand technique and what could go wrong if improper techniques were practiced.

She glanced at Misha and noticed the girl was nearly in tears already. Hopefully she would be okay with the new direction the professor was taking.

This class is beginning to not be my favorite anymore. She turned to a clean page in her notes and began to scribble a drawing of a bright red dragon. Trying not to disrupt the class she pointed her wand at the drawing and charmed it so that it would fly around on her parchment. It was a silly trick that she had read about in her free time, but at least it was ten times more exciting than the lesson.

Done! Forest thought in delight as she dropped her quill and relaxed her very tired hands. The parchment was filled with neat black cursive words, and Forest was quite proud of it. She looked up at the professor hopefully. They had already just hurt their hands writing down a bunch of fancy notes. Surely it would be time to do some cool spells, even simple ones?

She was yet again let down by the professor who graced them with his smile and announced that he would torture them with a drab lecture concerning the proper way to handle a wand versus the improper one. Forest's eyes narrowed. So, the professor knew his students well and wasn't going to act like he didn't know what they wanted. He was quite straightforward and frank about it, and a bit too much. He's doing this on purpose, she grumbled to herself as sat there staring at him with a not so happy look on her face.

Misha finished last, she released a deep sigh and shook her hands, they felt numb. "That's a long note!" Misha thought, looking as if she was about to cry.

She looked around and saw everyone's already done. Now, she thought that's all the class was for today, but then the Professor had stated that they would be learning the proper way of handling a wand.

"Oooooooohhh" Misha pouted, she just had turned a match into a candy! But, yes, maybe if she knew the proper way of handling her wand, maybe the match would've turned to a needle.

Misha now shows signs of being interested to what the Professor will teach them.

Don't point your wand at another student while performing a transfiguration. Really? Someone would think to do that. Merri rolled her eyes at what she thought were fairly common sense practices. After all who would practice spells that weren't published? Oh wait, me! She covered her mouth and quietly giggled.

Merri frowned and waved her wand, erasing the dragon she had drawn completely. This is so dull. She had almost decided to just go to sleep when the professor paused to ask if there were any questions. Merri shyly raised her hand, "Can we practice something now?"

The professor appeared to be startled by the question, but eventually agreed on the basis that sometimes practicing makes more sense than lecturing. He assigned everyone the Scribblifors spell which transformed small objects into quills. And passed out forks to practice with.

What? Don't point the wand at another person when doing a transfiguration spell? Who in this planet did not know that? Even a little kid without magic abilities would know not to point a loaded gun at someone, let alone a skilled wizard with a wand spiked with a spell. They weren't toddlers anymore, were already in their teens. There was no need to point out the ultimate obvious to them as if they were kindergartners...although, there were times when Forest wanted to turn her siblings into little animals or silly objects when they were being stupid. Nonetheless the girl rolled her eyes in annoyance without much discretion, since she was sure that the professor wouldn't mind, as he already knew how much they hated what he was doing and came to a happy acceptance of it.

From behind her, she heard Merri ask the professor if they could practice something. Forest was thankful that Merri had voiced out her desire to do something worthwhile--in fact, she wished that she had been the one to speak up--but she expected the professor to object. She was pleasantly surprised, however, that she was wrong. The professor actually looked taken aback by the request, although why he was, Forest wasn't sure. Wasn't he expecting them to ask to do something else? But what mattered was that he eventually consented. They were to practice the Scribblifors spell, turning small objects into a quill, but he would let them practice with forks. He began passing them out to everyone, and Forest picked her's up after he placed it on her desk. It was a simple, shiny silver fork. She wandered what the difference of this would be with the spell that she had recently practiced with Merri and Misha, though. Was it the same one, since they were going to transform one small object into another? Did they have to just concentrate? Or was there a certain spell that they had to chant? This was confusing.

After the professor went back to the front of the class, Forest raised her hand.
"Professor, is this the spell in which we have to concentrate on what objected we want the current one to turn into?" she asked.

The professor quickly cleared up the confusion and explained the simplicity of the spell. Apparently one only had to point their wand at the fork then shout Scribblifor. He went on to explain the importance of stressing the correct syllable but Merri was more interested in trying out the spell.

Could it really be that simple!? She paused seeming a little doubtful, but packed up her quills and notes before focusing on the fork that had been placed at her desk. Alright fork let's turn you into a beautiful ravens quill!

Merri pointed her wand at the eating utensil then firmly shouted the spell, "Scribblifor!" The fork stood up straight then turned into a rather large black spider. She screamed loudly and jumped away from her desk. "I did not tell you to become a spider!" She ran towards the back of the class and hid her face hoping the creature would quickly return to being a fork.

"Don't point your wand to another person when doing a transfiguration spell. Okay, got it." Misha's eyes widened as she tries to remember that rule.

Misha looked at the others, they seemed really bored. Suddenly, she heard her seatmate Merri suggested if the class could start practicing the spell. Misha smiled from ear to ear as she heard Merri and clapped her hands in excitement. She then looked at the Professor in high hopes that he will consent Merri's idea, and yes, he did.

Then the Professor handed out silver forks with an instruction to turn the silver into a quill. Misha was clueless as how to do that. She was nearly into raising her hand when she heard Forest's statement and the Professor telling what to do. "Scibilor? Scribilfor?" Misha could not even speak the right term. She looked at the fork now lying quietly on her desk. "Mr. Fork could you turn into a quill when I wave my wand?" Misha asked the fork politely as if the fork is another living being that would delightedly turn into a quill. Misha was getting frustrated as the fork did not even move. "Scribilror" Misha said when she was about to wave her wand and point at the object, she heard a scream from her seatmate, Merri. Misha's eyes widened when she saw how the fork transformed into a black spider. "Amazing!" Misha clapped her hands in delight while Merri made a run for her life.

The spider ran about in circles for a few minutes before stopping and looking up at Misha.

Merri was absolutely horrified as she stood in the corner peaking between her fingers wondering what in the world Misha was clapping about. Spiders! I hate spiders. She bounced up and down as she chanted in her mind. Please go away mister spider! Please GO AWAY!

She tried to think about some of the helpful spells she had read about earlier but was so terrified she couldn't even begin to remember the shrinking spell. "Has it returned to being a fork yet?" The girl whispered between her shaking fingers.
